Tuan dan Puan, Bapak dan Ibu, Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for your apreciation and participation to this program. Iam delighted to join this program based on the reason that this program for me is the great apreciation. In here, Iam will description a litlle about my book, Extrinsicality of Indonesian Literature. This book consist five chapter.
Chapter I try to offer various approach for Indonesian literary approach. In the current Indonesian literary approach, mainly in the academic life, the structural approach tends to be popularly applied. As a result, the discussion is merely focused on the text itself. Cultural approach is not yet popular. Based on the reason that the writer cannot be separated from his surrounding culture, religion and ideology, the intrinsic will face the iron wall. Therefore, the extrinsic approach in this book will hopefully offered a new paradigm to more completely reveal the richness of a text.
Chapter 2, starting the discussion through the description of publication system in Indonesia, it tells how Balai Pustaka was taken its advantage by the colonial government to apply his policy. Sitti Nurbaya, Salah Asuhan, Hulubalang Raja and Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijk are proposed as examples about the urgency of extrinsic study to reveal the affluence of the text.
Chapter 3 tries to show the attitude of the Japanese in the social-culture-literature field with the case of Asia Raya Newspaper.
Chapter 4 shows that novel (literature) is not only the mode of expression to offer aesthetic aspect, but also a media for ideological expression with socio-culture-political background, even the religion according to the writer perspective. Here literature functions to express the representation of the writer ideology. Eight novels of this analysis will prove this evidence.
Chapter 5 basically reveal various extrinsicality aspect. Except Mangunwijaya’s novel, all of them are published post-reformation. Therefore, it will be seen there, that the Indonesian authors seemed as if they are given the open space of liberty. Sex, homosexuality, lesbianism, are the examples.
Last but not least, I would like to say that literature is basically a social and cultural portray which try to deliver ideological mission and cultural spirit. Literature could then be considered as the gate to the garden of culture of a particular society. Considering that Indonesia is born and formed from various culture, ethnicity, languages, and religion, so literature could be taken its advantage for the development of mutual understanding. Difference is not a mean of separation, rather it is a glue for national unity. It is the affluent potency, wealth, and the dignity of a great nation. Hence, the multi-culture is the core of this book.
That’s all my presentation. Thank you very much for your appreciation.
