To: Honorable Professor Maman Mahayana

Greetings, Professor Maman Mahayana   my name is Chul Park and I am the President of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.

You are probably busy with lecturing and research as the new semester has begun. The reason I am sending this letter is to present you with a newly-issued HUFS (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies) brochure along with detailed information about HUFS.  As you may already be aware, in the Asian University Rankings co-published by Britain’s The Times and QS, HUFS was able to achieve excellence, ranking No. 1 in Korea and 11th in Asia in the internationalization category.

HUFS, which began with five foreign language departments in 1954, has grown into Korea’s No. 1 and the world’s third-largest foreign language university, teaching 45 languages from across the globe. Based on its goal of becoming a Global HUFS, the university is accelerating in the cultivation of international experts through active international exchange activities. In addition, the growing competitiveness of HUFS, comprising study and research in the humanities, social sciences, law, natural science, and engineering, all in combination with international and language studies, continues to make critical contributions to Korea’s development into a major economic power at the global level.

Refusing to become complacent about its past reputation, HUFS continues to write its history anew. With the advent of this era of unlimited competition when the concept of national boundaries has disappeared, HUFS is implementing pioneering policies to develop experts who compete on an international scale. Examples of the university’s growing achievements are the 7+1 Visiting Student Program, which enables students to study at an overseas university for one semester while attending HUFS, the Double Major Program, Dual Foreign Language Certificate for Graduation, Dual Degree Program, Internship at KoreanEmbassies Overseas, and Internship at KOTRA Offices Overseas. Our outstanding professors at HUFS are helping all our students develop into truly global experts with foreign language skills, professional knowledge, understanding of other cultures, and creativity.

I ask for your continued interest so that HUFS can continue to grow as a source of knowledge and learning that will foster true global experts far into the future. These experts, I am sure, will contribute to world peace, in line with the university’s motto of truth, peace, and creativity. I also hope your research and educational activities continue to bring good results.
